Delicious, child-friendly recipesThe illustrations and descriptions were delightful. The recipes were tasty and appealing to all literary-minded children who have been permitted or encouraged from babyhood to have adventurous palates.
Several recipes have been oft requested birthday favorites.
Yummy. Wish it were still in print.
Delicious Food, Wonderful FantasyThe book is supposedly aimed at kids. I will say though, that the taste of the foods is really more adult (or English). They taste great, don't get me wrong, but kids (unless they are really excited about the recipies being Narnian) will likely think them wierd. I made the Tea Cakes with Lemon Curd Filling for a friend's kid's Communion Party, and all the adults raved--but the kids wouldn't even go near them. (Incidentally, the Tea Cakes are DELICIOUS. A wonderful treat).
A note of advice, you will need stuff like double boilers and parchment paper for some of the recipies. Plus you will have to make some trips to specialty food stores. However, most of the stuff is middling easy to make.
Overall, this is a wonderful book. I am so glad I have it. The recipies are very tasty, and the book itself provides a wonderful cornicopia of foods and ideas that Americans are not very familiar with.
Transport your family to NarniaThis book has approximately 68 recipes divided into categories such as Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Dessert, and Drinks.
In my opinion, the mark of a good cookbook is the percentage of recipes that one would actually make. In this cookbook, there is a high percentage of the recipes that I would try.
Each recipe has a bit of commentary from Douglas Gresham, Lewis' stepson, and a quote from one of the books that lists the dish the recipe is for. The commentary is interesting and informative. There is also a foreward written by Gresham. At the end of the book are some menu ideas so that you can have a Narnian dinner party with your friends.

Original and inspiring!Citing examples from her own midwife-assisted birth, as well as those of other women, Laurie proves that the term "non-interventive midwife" is an oxymoron. Birth, like other natural bodily functions, requires privacy. Simply the presence of a midwife at a birth is an intervention. Add to this the fact that midwives are generally required by law to intervene and it is obvious that for a birth to be truly "pleasurable," it cannot be assisted.
Yet Laurie doesn't condemn midwives (or doctors, for that matter) or claim their intentions aren't honorable. In fact, she encourages women to use them as resources - "pick their brains" for what bits of wisdom they DO possess. Just don't assume their presence at birth is necessary or desirable.
The most inspiring parts of the book for me were Laurie's own unassisted birth stories. It is clear that all of her births were both life-changing events, and "ordinary miracles." Her joyful proclamation following her first unassisted birth sums up her feelings beautifully - "Pop a cork! I feel like having a party!"
This book was a joy to read and I highly recommend it to all couples, regardless of how or where they plan to give birth.
Birth Books Are My PassionThe Power of Pleasureable Childbirth is totally validating! As Ms Morgan points out, birth looks to be inherently painful in our society. In other words, our fear of birth is inherited. I figured this out decades ago, with the help of Dr. Grantley Dick-Read and my own babies. As with any legacy from the past, I can choose which ones to carry on. Ecstatic birth has everything going for it whereas the norm -- fear/pain/drugs in birth -- is an old story that no longer serves anyone.
I plan on giving this book to all of my grandchildren. Along with the book, Prenatal Yoga and Natural Childbirth, this will go a long way toward bringing more peace to all our relations. If there is one book to turn the angle of this culture's eye toward the light that birth can be, it is The Power of Pleasureable Childbirth. Thank you Laurie Morgan!

Network Design Done RightThe approach given in this book is to focus on the larger end goal, providing services via the network, instead of the lower-level technical details. This approach requires greater emphasis on requirements to which three chapters are devoted. Mr. McCabe's treatment of requirements gathering and analysis is among the best in literature and is consistent with best practices that are performed by other engineering disciplines.
What I especially like about this book, however, is the flow analysis that ensures you will produce a network design that has the following characteristics: (1) traceable to requirements, (2) focused on providing application response and network services to users, and (3) is a solid baseline for performance and capacity management of the network as it evolves.
If all networks were designed using the approach and techniques provided in this book service level management would be a less daunting endeavor. This is a five star book that adds a true engineering methodology to network design.
